There are many things about India that we learned in the movie. This is what we learned. The religion of the people in India is Hindu. 670,000,000 people are Hindu. The cow is a sacred animal, and the god of death is Shiva. The Ganges is considerd to be a god, so the people cremate themselves and throw them in the Ganges. The Hindus bathe in the Ganges, because they think it washes away their sins. It is bad for them because it is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. The Shah of India built the Taj Mahal for his wife but then she died and it was used for her grave. The building was millions of dollars so the people got mad at him for spending that much money. The best way to travel is a train, but they’re very crowded. There are 4 people in each train compartment, and there are no glass windows. Also, educated people speak english. That is what we learned about India.

Did you know that the world’s supply of oil will eventually run out? We are going to have to change our ways of life, because according to author Paul Roberts, “World oil production will peak in about 2030. After that, output will decline.” Today, oil is the most valuable item in world trade. Ninety percent of the world’s transportation, 40% of the world’s energy, and thousands of products depends on oil. Saudi Arabia holds 25% of the world’s oil, and furthermore, the OPEC nations hold 65% of the world’s oil. Although it guzzles 25% of the Earth’s oil supply, the U.S. only has 4% of the world’s population. We must start using renewable forms of energy. For example, we should build and use gas-electric hybrid cars and install the most efficient heating and cooling systems. Solar and wind power should be developed and used. People still want bigger cars and bigger houses, so we need more gasoline. The supply of petroleum products is going down, but people want them even more.
If we don’t start making new ways of generating energy, we will have a CRUDE AWAKENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 8, 1938
Dear Greg,
Our great leader, Kemal Ataturk, has just died. My life has changed so much over the past 15 years because of all the things he did for Turkey.

We even look different than we did 15 years ago. Kemal Ataturk banned the fez because he wanted to have a secular government and women aren’t allowed to wear veils anymore. Now, we look more modern in our European hats. When he was trying to make our government secular, he took away our Islamic laws. More tourists come to our country now because they think all religions are welcome here.
Ataturk gave us all freedom and equal rights like your country. Back in the Ottoman times, peasants were mistreated and today noone has special privileges. Women have equal rights now too. In Turkey today all men and women are equal before the law.
Ataturk led Turkey to full independence and ended the Ottoman dynasty. We have a republican form of government and a mixed economy. Ataturk wanted our country to be able to take care of itself financially so he did lots of expansion in agriculture, industries, and technology. He advanced transportation, banking, housing, energy, exports, and social services.
He changed our alphabet so that more countries would understand us. We used to write in Arabic, but now we use the Latin alphabet. The kids in Turkey are better readers and writers now because Ataturk thought that education was one of the most important duties of government. Kids also know more about ancient and modern cultures because Ataturk thought it was very important.
These are the amazing things Ataturk did for our country. It is exciting to live with all the new changes which make our country more like yours. I’ve put some Turkish delight in this envelope for you!
Your friend,
Glegorly
